An Evening Under the Stars

Join the Lethbridge Astronomy Society (LAS) on Friday September 26th at 10:00pm to kick off the Dark Sky Discovery Days weekend for a magical night of stargazing in Waterton Lakes National Park!

A Star Party is a gathering of amateur (and/or professional) astronomers that come together to observe the night sky! Taking place at the Falls Interpretive Theater (the regular home of the Waterton Planetarium), 407 Evergreen Ave., a number of telescopes (and their expert operators) will be assembled to share the night sky and offer up informal opportunities to look through a telescope and chat with astronomers and stargazers. From dazzling planets to far-off galaxies and glowing nebulae, there’s something for everyone to enjoy — whether you're brand new to astronomy or a seasoned stargazer.

LAS members and Dark Sky Guides will be on hand to help you spot some unique deep-sky objects and answer any questions about the universe. This is your chance to explore the cosmos up close, right from one of the most beautiful spots in the park.

The Sun Like You’ve Never Seen It!

The Lethbridge Astronomy Society (LAS) will be setting up solar telescopes for the Dark Sky Discovery Days on September 27 and 28 from approximately 11:00 am - 2:00pm, on the lawn outside the Waterton Community Centre in Waterton Park.

Don’t miss this opportunity to safely do some solar gazing and explore our closest star. Visit with local astronomy enthusiasts, ask questions, and engage with like minded people.

Our special telescopes are safe to view through and provide an incredible chance to view sunspots, prominences, solar flares, and the bubbly texture of the sun.

There will be a variety of telescopes available, each of which offers a different view of the sun. This is your opportunity to see the Sun in a way you’ve never imagined — up close, safe, and spectacular. Come see the star of the show!
